What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Your victory in life is determined by the source of your life. If what you do emanates from you rather than the Spirit it is called flesh. One thing about the flesh is that it cannot please God. Flesh means we are outside the will of God and doing our own thing. In our flesh is no good thing because it has within it all the rudiments of the fallen nature. You don't have the backing of the Lord when you walk in the flesh, you might be a Samson but while in the flesh you will not be able operate in your God-give abilities.
When you walk in the Spirit it means your source is the Holy Spirit. You do what he tells you to do and therefore, you are living for him. This has the blessing of the Lord and you see success no matter how tough the situation might be.
Jesus emphasized on this a lot because it was very important to him. Whether the battle is worn or lost depends on your source!
