We have to repent everyday and submit to God everyday
2 Samuel 6
7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
Our God still deals with us till we become perfect in perfection. In Christ we are pure because he took our place. But we have to be pure in our lives.
God smote or striked Uzzah and he died and he is still doing it today. Paul said, 'I die daily', God allowed a messenger of Satan to buffet him.
The story of Jonah can help make this lesson clearer. God made sure the prophet repented in the whale and when he was under the tree.
After we get born again the Lord will continue to lead us to more repentance because we have much to learn.
Deciding to preach was a major repentance for me. It was a Jonah in the belly of a whale decision. But I have also had under the tree dealings with the Lord. As I walk with him he tries to make me submit in certain areas I am not prepared to. He wants me to do certain things I don't want to. For instance, I like to read novels but I have to switch to the bible; am naturally antisocial but now I have to visit people; I like my privacy but I have to pick my phone calls everyday and help solve peoples problems. There are many more which has become a tag of war. One of them is my ambitions. If I were in business perhaps I would be making more money, but I have to hold on as he changes my financial structure. It takes grace not run into business once more.
God works on us everyday. Sometimes he will use the 'torn in the flesh' to get you to obey. For instance he can take away your protection Just so that you fall into sin to make you more compassionate when you preach. After that experience you are humbled because you too have sinned and cannot cast the first Stone. Judgemental people drive others away from the house of God even though they are not perfect.
Watchman Nee wrote the spiritual man while he was in prison. John had time to receive the book of revelations after been banished to the island of Patmos.
Many things will happen to us because we have to change or take a certain step. Something may come your way to get you to repent, a whale may be sent to swallow us.
There is repentance within repentance. Certain prayers would not be answered while others would be answered speedily. Certain love ones would be taken away.
If we would be flexible, things would be much easier but if we are hard God will be hard on us.
May we listen to him the first time and not wait till the whale comes for us.
We should know that every disobedience brings sickness, financial hardship, undue suffering for our families, a falling into the hands of our enemies, delay in answered prayers etc etc.
Every disobedience is a serious error that details the ark. Repent.
